The difference between "50's rocker" and "Teen pop" is a question of degree and interpretation
-- check the teen page for possible misfiles, yeah?

There's more in storage, but this will have to do for the time being. Maybe I'll catch up someday.

ADDRISI BRO.S - Cherrystone/                          Del Fi 4116                         st VG++ 10
   (Teen duo with four-piece band -- handclaps and prominent lead guitar. No orchestrations, no
    hokum, no guff, just a solid teen/rocker. Flip's somewhere between 'folk revival' and one of
    those bogus 'western ballads' in the Marty Robbins style.)
JEWEL AKENS -. Birds And The Bees/ Era 3141 VG 3
   (Big hit in '61 or '62, still charming today. L.A. based (?) black rocker doing amiable teen-pop
    with a strange guitar sound. Flipside makes with the blues riffs, vaguely soulful...)
JEWEL AKENS - Georgie Porgie/                         Era 3142                                NM-  7
   (Same basic kinda stuff as "Birds And The Bees" (I'm sure you remember THAT one...) A little bit
    more R&B oriented here, though; it's got that 'do the stroll' rhythm and a bit more soulful grit
    in the vocal. Flip's even better, a solid, pumping soul dancer. Good guitar break, too.)
BELL NOTES - I've Had It/                             Time 1004                             @VG++ 15
                                                                                           OR @VG  3
   (1959, one of those classic "we can barely play, but so what?" records... as simple and basic as
    it gets. GREAT rock-and-roll two sider.)
CHUCK BERRY - School Day/                             Chess 1653                             stVG  6
                                                                                            OR VG  5
   (Yet another classic Chuck Berry killer. Flip's a bluesy instro with Hawaiian moves.)
CHUCK BERRY - You Never Can Tell/                     Chess 1906                             VG++ 15
   (1964. 60's label with coat-of-arms. Pair of cool later sides; A-side uses a N'Orleans rhythm,
    B-side's a boogie-woogie with a long guitar break.)
CHUCK BERRY - Little Marie/                           Chess 1912                             VG++ 15
   (1964. 60's label with coat-of-arms. Sequel to Memphis Tenn... aawww, ain't that sweet! Happy
    ending? Not gonna tell you. Flip is great, a classic Berry rocker -- he still had it.)
BILLY AND LILLIE - La Dee Dah/ Swan 4002 stVG- 3
   (1957. R&B guy/gal vocal duo, Phillied up for Dick Clark's purposes. Flip is kinda neat, a
    defiant rock & roll anthem.)
BLARNEYS - Kilkenny's Party/                          Romulus 45-3006                          NM 25
   (1963. Solid teen-rocker with handclaps, startling flashes of the Beatles' sound.)
BLUENOTES - You Can't Get Away From Love/             Brooke 111                               VG  4
   (1959/1960. Country/pop crossover, too old for 'teen', too wimpy/sweet for rockabilly. RCA
    custom pressing.)
BON AIRES - Stop The World/
King (USA) 4975               stVG++ 20  ON HOLD
   (WLP. Uptempo vocal-group bopper with guitar break; they sound like white boys that really
    really dug Louis Jourdan. Flip is a flamenco tune with acoustic guitar, solid vocal harmonies.)
BONNIE LOU - Daddy-O/                                 King (USA) 4835                          VG  7
   (1953-55 teen bopper. Mostly piano, handclaps and chorus, but peppy and... actually... pretty
    cool for the period. Listed at RCS page...)
BOWMAN BROTHERS - Hey, Punkin/                        Columbia 41176                        @VG++ 10
   (1958, oddball version of the Everly Bro.s country/pop teen sound. Uptempo b/w ballad, itty-
    bitty guitar break on A-side. With Norman Petty Trio.)
JIMMY BOYD - High School Social/Don't Tempt Me Jubilee (USA) 5316 stVG 10
   (Singer sounds like a eunuch, but the A-side's an atmospheric slow-grind stroll. Flip is
    uptempo, kinda poppy... but there's plenty of acceptable guitar on both sides. Listed at
    RCS site. Blue label.)
BRENDA & EDDIE - Gee, I Love You/                     Dot (USA) 15615                       stVG+ 12
   (1957, country-ish boy/girl teen bopper. Some people seem to think Eddie Cochran was involved,
    but I doubt it. Two vaguely-okay rockers, though.)
TOMMY BROOKS - She Called Me Baby/Lovesick            Insignia (USA) 101                     VG++ 25
   (Promo label. Tough one to describe, um... redneck/teener blue-eyed soul with horns. Bobby Bare
    involvement. Comes with way-cool Insignia label stock-sleeve, 'cept it's torn.)
BILL BRYAN & GOLD TONES - Rocking Chair/Wasted Words      Pike (USA) 5913                   @VG++ 15
  (1962. Hot billyish rocker with very prominent sax. Flip's a teen ballad, attractive echoey
   production, not countryfied in any way. Listed on RCS page.)
JOHNNY BURNETTE - I Wanna Thank Your Folks/       Chancellor (USA) C 1116                      VG  4
   (1962. Nice uptempo pop/teener with piano and strings. Flip's a countryish ballad.)
BUZZ AND AL - Jeanne-Marie/                           ABC-Paramount 10.10                  stVG++ 10
   (Very wholesome teen duo: upbeat pop-rocker b/w a soulful & purty Everly-harmonies death song
    with steel guitar.)
CARMACKS - I've Got To Know/                          Autograph (USA) 205-60                @VG++ 15
   (Dallas label. Smooth m/f teen vocals with strong TX accent. Rockin' band behind them adds a
    little oomph.)

   (1962. Very decent Ricky Nelson-style rock-a-ballad, good guitar leads. No break. Flip's
    strongly country-styled.)
DEAN CHRISTIE - Heart Breaker/I'm A Loser             Select (USA) 715                        VG+  7
   (Kinda raw sounding, weirdly balanced, version of the Freddy Cannon rock-popper sound. Pretty
    lovable, both sides hit it.)
CHUCK AND GARY - Can't Make Up My Mind/              Verve V-10117                             G-  3
   (Everly Bro.s styled teen/rocker with sax. Not bad.)
CLEF DWELLERS - That's The Way You Gotta Swing Today/The Redheaded Woman
                       With The Green Velvet Eyes Singular (USA) 110/111 stVG+ 15
   (WLP. 1958? Slinky and peculiar black-rocker mambo; hiccupy vocal, mild lewdness, hot guitar
    break. B-side's a slow-drag instro with soprano sax lead. WO2L + stkr.)
BUZZ CLIFFORD - Simply Because/Three Little Fishes Columbia (USA) 41979 stVG 7
   (1961. Doo-wop flavored teen ballad with 2nd-lead bass right upfront, lotta good vocal
    interplay. Flip is a reallyreally cute uptempo version of 40's schlager-pop novelty.)
WAYNE COCHRAN - My Little Girl/The Coo Scottie (USA) 1303 VG 5
   (Teen bopper with a bit of a hiccup b/w a sloow slow dance with a lewd Jerry Lee Presley vocal.)
BOBBY COMSTOCK & COUNTS - Bony Moronie/Do That Little Thing Jubilee (USA) 5392 stVG+ 8
   (Nice little two-sided rocker, he got it right for once.)
DAYJOBBERS - Times I've Had/                        TMP-Ting (USA) 116                         NM 25
   (No date, I would guess 1963. Piano-led rrrrrrocker! Sounds like hootenanny refugees taking what
    they know about r&b and wailing with it. Barry Goldberg involvement?)
JOHNNY DEE (LOUDERMILK) - A-Plus In Love/           Colonial CB 430                        stVG++ 10
   (Teen-billy two-sider; guitar breaks on both sides, but it's pretty tame overall. 3rd pressing,
    "distr. by Am-Par.")
JOHNNY DIAMOND AND THE TEENS - Cry Baby Cry/I'm On The Wrong Train Manco (USA) 1016 VG++ 15
   (Decent Texas-billy with gal chorus. Kinda mild, but guitar break on A-side hits a real Sun
    Studios groove.)
MALCOLM DODDS/TUNEDROPS - Beauty And The Beast/     End E-1000                               stVG  7
   (Early rock, similar to Bill Haley, but a bit faster/funner. Wild jungle noises liven things
    up considerably. Flip is some classic-stylin' doo-wop that sounds MUCH blacker than the A-side.
    DIG that falsetto back up!)
JIMMY DONLEY - Baby Heaven Sent Me You/Loving Cajun Style Tear Drop (USA) 3009 VG++ 15
   (1962. Huey P Meaux soungwriting/producer credits. Texas-sound blue-eyed soul, crude and
    greasy. Harold Dorman refrito.)
FIVE STARS - Pickin' On The Wrong Chicken/Dreaming Hunt (USA) 318 @VG+ 6
   (Cute & trebly nonthreatening uptempo handclaps bopper. Sax break. Flip's a slow-dance ballad,
    sounds like Anita Kerr Singers doing Be Bop A Lula.)
HARCOURT FREES - The Skin Diver/                    Cascade (USA) 5904                       VG++ 10
    (1958? Doofy novelty; skin-diver and mermaid -- half-baked special effects. Flip is a teenish
     sax-a-billy rocker. RSOL.)
RON FURY - There's An Angel On My Shoulder/Long Long Time Session (USA) 701 VG 35
   (Ballsy rocker, sorta billyish, but (over) produced in teen ways. Songwriting reminds me of
    Jerry Lee Lewis. Flip's a straight teener ballad. Rare one, this. Looks grim, plays surpris-
    ingly well. Warped, tracks okay.)
GLENCOVES - Devil's Waiting/                        Select (USA) 727                       stVG++  7
   (Boppin pre-Beatles/teen-sound folk-rock with 'Human Fly' riff. Flip's more ordinarier, sounds
    like Kingston Trio, comedy-lyrics number. XOL.
BUDDY HOLLY/CRICKETS - That'll Be The Day/          Brunswick (USA) 55009                   @VG++ 25
   (Uptempo two-sider -- flip is an obscure one, but it's very cool.)
BUDDY HOLLY/CRICKETS - Oh Boy/Not Fade Away         Brunswick (USA) 55035                   @VG++ 25
HONEYCONES - Vision Of You/                         Ember 1036                               VG++ 10
   (1958-59, teen soloist with backing group. Ballad b/w pig-latin novelty rocker with guitar
    break.)
CHARLIE HOSS AND THE PONIES - The Madison Twist/The Raunchy Twist
                                                            Columbia (USA) 41855           stVG   5
   (1960. Loose, good-natured, lively bit of fluff, sounds like it was thrown together in 10
    minutes. Jazzcats slumming? Flip's an instro, sax & guitar breaks. Klaus Ogerman songwriting/
    involvement.)
IMPACTS - Croc-O-Doll/Bobby Sox Squaw RCA (USA) 7583 VG 4
   (1958? Hugo & Luigi production in the novelty-bopper plastic-rocknroll bag. B-side is deep &
    meaningful: "She did the redskin rumba, she was a real hot numba, rocknrollin' all over the
    place." SOL.)
NEW!! 11/15 JOHNNY JAY - Sugar Doll/Tears (Keep on Falling) Mercury (USA) 71232 NM 20
   (1957. Medium-fast rocker with wild-man lyrics and outta-control screamin'. And saxophone, and
    backing vocal group. Flip's a countryish rockaballad.)
ACE KENNEDY / CANDIES - Tel-A-Woman/Down Where The Gang Hangs Out Philips (USA) 40091 stVG++ 10
   (1963. Promo label. Tight & groovin' blue-eyed R&B, uptempo two-sider. Sounds like a Leiber
    & Stoller record, but it's Crewe & Gaudio, could be the best thing they ever did. WOL,
    plays @NM.)
KINGSMEN - Cat Walk/Conga Rock                        East-West (USA) 120                    VG++ 20
   (Promo label. The Comets without Bill Haley -- A-side is a sax & guitar instro with a bit of
    bump & grind. Flip's a rock & roll mambo with vocals.)
MICKEY LEE LANE - Shaggy Dog/Oo-Oo Swan (USA) 4183 NM- 8
    (Dark, bass-heavy and weird dance number, something like a 1964 Mitch Ryder. Slick (but somehow
     vaguely creepy) early frat-rock.)
LITTLE RICHARD - Keep A Knockin/                      Specialty 611                            VG  3
   (Anybody that doesn't love Little Richard, you have to wonder if they really are ALIVE...)
LUCHI - Screwdriver/CURLEY HAMNER - Just Carry On!
Westminster (USA) 4503             @NM  20  ON HOLD
   (Looks like this is a Lionel Hampton spinoff of some kind. BOPPIN' r&b stroll instro with
    lead sax, lot of personality. Vocal track on flip's somewhere between Fats Domino and Louis
    Armstrong. And Harry (the hipster) Gibson.)
ROBIN LUKE - Susie Darlin'/Living's Loving You        Dot (USA) 15781                         VG+  3
   (1959. Pleasant hiccup-y rockaballad, bland but pretty. B-side's an acoustic white-boy blues,
    quite unusual. First press was on Bertram Int'l.)
DARRELL MCCALL - Dear One/                            Philips 40015                          @VG+  4
   (@1962. Uptempo, countryish/teen-rock/soul. Nice genre-bending bopper/ballad similar to Harold
    Dorman on Rita.)
JAY MCNEELY - I Got The Message/Psycho Serenade       Swingin' (USA) 618                    @VG++ 12
   (1959. A-side's a nice, teen-flavored doo-wop style ballad. Vocal by Sonny Warner, no backing
    group. Flip is a crude, rockin' uptempo charmer, almost lives up to its name. Screamin' Jay
    territory.)
CHUCK MILLER - Plaything/After Yesterday Mercury (USA) 71173 stVG 5
   (1957. Okay southern-accent rocker tarted up with saxophone and girl chorus.)
RUSS MILLER - I Sit In My Window/Wait For Me, My Love VIP (USA) 1006 NM- 12
                                                                                          OR VG++  8
   (1957. Uptempo teen-bopper with backing chorus & fast honky-tonk piano. Flip is very dull,
    "soldiers marching home" stuff with snare-drums and fifes. You can hear it HERE:
    http://rcs.law.emory.edu/rcs/artists/m/mill4900.htm
DON MORSE & CHARACTERS - Your Gone/Baby Should I          GC (USA) 101                        @VG 20
   (1957, Cleveland OH label. Echoey blues-a-billy with baritone sax, bump & grind sound...
    Betcha Lux Interior (woulda) dug it. Flip's less exciting, still okay...)
GEORGE NIXON - Jingle Bell Twist/Let Me Be The Teacher
ELMS (USA) ZTSB 83148 VG+ 30 ON HOLD
   (Delicious black-rocker (?) two-sider: "Well, I thought I'd flip my wig when Santa did his
    gig..." Could be the best Xmas rocker ever. Flip's quite decent, has some rockabilly moves
    and some distinctive guitar. Columbia (?) custom pressing, homemade-look label design.)
PEYTON PARK - Blue Norther/Bad Mouth Alta (USA) 111 NM 35
   (Bluesy/teenish black rocker, a hard one to describe. Kinda New Orleans, doesn't rock hard,
    eccentric like Screamin' Jay but not as far-out. Texas label.)
LEON PEELS - Cottonhead Joe/                          Whirlybird (USA) 2002                  VG++ 15
   (Hot black rocker with long guitar break. Flip's a ballad, strong doo-wop flavoring. Perennial
    favorite of mine, who wants this copy? Slight warp, NAP.)
REGGIE PERKINS - Date Bait Baby/High School Caesar Ray Note (USA) S-9 VG++ 75
   (Theme-songs from two 1959 teensploitation movies -- Horny teen-bopper with baritone sax and
    backing chorus on the A-side; flip's a bit tougher; dramatic & kinda Gene Vincent-y. RARE
    and... pretty good. Promo label. SOL.)
NEW!! 8/29 BOBBY PLEASE - The Switch/The Monster Jamie (USA) 1118 stVG 4
   (1959. Loud dance-craze rocker with horns and backing vocals. B-side is NOT the Billy & Lillie
    song, it's about being chased by Frankenstein.)
CHUCK REED - Talkin' No Trash/Just Plain Hurt Hit (USA) 101 VG 8

   (1958. Cute stroll-rhythm bopper w/sax, call&response vocals. Flip's a fast bopper. You can hear
    it HERE: http://rcs.law.emory.edu/rcs/artists/r/roya3400.htm .)
SAMMY SALVO - Afraid/Marble Heart Imperial (USA) 5615 VG 5
   (Promo label. 58-Elvis sound rock-a-ballad with girl group backing. B-side's the same, but a
    trifle tougher.)
NEIL SEDAKA - I Go Ape/Moon Of Gold RCA (USA) 7473 stVG 7
   (Awesome 1959 pop-punk with some Jerry-Lee parody moves. Maybe the strongest and funniest
    rockin'-ape song of all, I can't remember any I've liked better. Mild-mannered Neil knows
    exactly how ridiculous the idea is; I can hear him giggling at the idea of getting his
    prehistoric jung-a-loid on... but he still gives it all his trebly rockin' best. The dis-
    connect between sincerity and ludicrousness makes for brilliant camp.)
SPARKS - Merry Merry Lou/Ol' Man River                Decca (USA) 3037                     stVG++ 15
    (1957. Lively Buddy Holly-ish black rocker/teener with lead sax, no backing vocals. Flipside is
     a stroll-rhythm instro rocker with baritone sax lead. Promo label. Small WO2L.)
SPOTLITERS - Conversation/Forgive Me                  New Star (USA) 122                   stVG++ 30
  (REALLY LIKEABLE teen-rocker, the kind that should have handclaps. Lead organ, short guitar
   break. Flip is a Lettermen snooze. Tennessee label.)
NIMROD STONE - Hot Toddy/Teenie Queenie
Top Star (USA) 61309                    VG+ 40
   (INSTANT AUDIO ORGASM the moment the needle hits the wax... and then your brain kicks in again
    and starts noticing weaknesses. PLUSSES : Tough-as-nails guitar sound, hot break, truly ex-
    cellent production and mastering... record is LOUD and sounds GREAT. MINUSES: Songwriting is
    kinda bland, singer shows a little bit of Bobby Darin/Paul Anka wimp-o damage. He's still
    confident, up-front and in charge, though, vocal isn't completely wussied. Record looks rough,
    plays super-clean.)
RUSS TAMBLYN - Fifteen Cents/Tom Thumb's Tune          Metro (USA) K20012                   VG++  15
   (Sax-riff teen bopper with a couple of short guitar breaks. Dorky or charming, your call; I'll
    go with 'dorky'. Flipside is only of interest to rabid George Pal completists. Really. I mean
    it.)
HOMER (SCADILLAC) TAYLOR - Fool's Gold/Wonderland Dance
Ro-Al-Ta (USA) #1/2              VG-  8  ON HOLD
   (Offbeat black rocker on tiny NYC label -- A-side is c&w with yodelling and a sax break, b-side
    is a rockin' jump blues dance number. Super-obscure, and pretty dang wonderful.)
NICK TODD - Twice As Nice/Tiger                       Dot (USA) 15951                        VG++ 10
  (Spiffy teen-rocker two-sider; A-side's a rockaballad with a 58-Elvis arrangement (not vocal,
   thankfully), and B-side is a tough little Freddie Cannon kinda bopper. Listed in RCS census.)
NEW!! 8/29 ERNIE TUCKER - Can She Give You Fever/I'm That Someone Earth (USA) 501 VG++ 10
   (1960. Kick-ass black rocker b/w piano-triplets R&B ballad.)
TURTLES - Mystery Train/Say You Care                  RCA (USA) 6356                          VG+  8
   (OK-decent guitar-heavy rocker with bland whitebread vocals, solid break. Flip's pretty Four
    Freshmen, but the guitar stands out a bit. Came out BEFORE Elvis' version, if I understand
    correctly.)
TU-TONES - Crazy Baby/Be My Steady Love               Cabot (USA) 115                          VG  8
   (Fast rockabilly teener with hiccup-stylin' vocals, hot break, backing group. Way stoopid, way
    fun. Flip's a bargain-basement Elvis bop-a-ballad, "Teddy Bear" style.)
VOXPOPPERS - The Last Drag/                           AMP 3 (USA) 1004                       VG++ 40
VOXPOPPERS - The Last Drag/                           Mercury 71282                         @VG++ 10
   (1958. Vegas-grind stroll tune with lyrics about a drag-race and a car-wreck. Loooooooong damn
    guitar break, pret-ty wild. Flip's a ballad. AMP first press or Mercury reissue.)
DANNY WAYNE - You're The One That Walked Away/You're Wrong Card (USA) 101 @VG++ 20
   (Decent two-sided rocker, 1961 Elvis + a little bit of Bobby Darin. Might sound dull or creepy,
    but it's very okay. Really.)
JOHNNY LEE WILLS AND BOYS - Blub Twist/Your Love For Me Is Losing Light
                                                      Sims (USA) 129                          VG+  5
   (Bob Wills' brother, also a player on the Western Swing circuit. A-side's a deft, lightly-
    rockin twist mambo with gtr break, sax break, trumpet break. Flip's a country weeper with
    dirge fiddle, Dub Dickerson songwriting credit.)
